What’s your career background?

Before working at Active Pathways, I was a support worker in the community which meant that I helped to support people in their own homes. There were a wide range of people with a mix of learning and mental health disabilities.

How long have you worked at Active Pathways for?

I’ve been at Active Pathways (The Hamptons and Brookhaven, Preston) since 2018 and started as a night-time recovery support worker. Although I enjoyed the role, I struggled doing night shifts – it just wasn’t for me! The management team here really care about their employees and their wellbeing so I moved on to day shifts instead, working in the same role.

After being a recovery support worker for a while, a new opportunity came up to become a temporary Activity Co-ordinator. This was a new role and something that sounded prefect for me, so I jumped at the opportunity and a year later I became Active Pathways full time Activities Co-ordinator.

What does a day in the life of Activities Co-ordinator look like?

I co-ordinate all the activities for our The Hamptons and Brookhaven sites. The activities that I put together help our service users develop and learn new skills. I ensure all activities are safe and beneficial to all service users, so everyone can get involved!  

Some of the activities I facilitate include arts and crafts, cooking and baking lessons, music groups, cycling and many more. The service users love the activities I put together and it’s great to see that what I’m doing is making a positive impact on their mental health and wellbeing.

What’s been your highlight so far about working at Active Pathways?

It has to be being given the chance to share my creative flare with everyone. Seeing and hearing people having fun and enjoy their stay with us is the greatest feeling ever.

Would you recommend working at Active Pathways to a friend?

I would recommend working for Active Pathways to anyone. It’s a caring, fun and happy place!

The best thing about working for Active Pathways is that all staff and all service users matter. People are not forgotten about and are at the core of the business. The management team care about us and you’re thanked and appreciated for the work you do.

It’s like one big happy family – there is never a dull day, always happiness and joy.
