Fernside House opens in Leeds, expanding mental health provision

Active Pathways has opened Fernside House, a new residential service in Armley, Leeds, supporting men with complex mental health needs within a psychologically informed, therapeutic environment.

Fernside House forms part of Active Pathways’ integrated step-up and step-down care model, providing structured, recovery-focused support for people stepping down from hospital or requiring longer-term residential care. The service has been developed in response to demand from local health and care systems for high-quality, community-based alternatives to inpatient care.

Designed to promote stability, independence and positive long-term outcomes, Fernside House offers a safe, calm and structured environment, underpinned by a psychologically informed approach. Care is delivered by an experienced multidisciplinary team, working closely with commissioners, clinicians and local partners to ensure coordinated, person-centred support.

The service plays an important role in supporting hospital discharge and system flow, providing sustainable residential placements closer to home and helping to reduce pressure on acute mental health services.

Open Day – 5 February 2026

To mark the opening of Fernside House, Active Pathways will be holding an Open Day for commissioners and clinical partners on Wednesday 5 February. The event will provide an opportunity to visit the service, meet members of the leadership and clinical team, and learn more about Fernside House’s care model, referral criteria and pathways. To attend, please email referrals@active-pathways.com.

Fernside House is now open for admissions and accepting referrals.
