Creative activity supports wellbeing at Millcroft in Leeds

Residents and colleagues at Millcroft, our residential mental health rehabilitation service in Leeds, recently joined the Therapy Team for an Occupational Therapy-led colouring session.

Residents described colouring as a form of meditation, helping them to focus on the present moment and feel more grounded. As the session developed, conversations flowed naturally around life experiences, identity, belonging, emotions and personal memories.

Creativity and self-expression

The room soon filled with bright colours, creative patterns and individual designs. Everyone was encouraged to choose their own colours and take part in a way that felt right for them.

One resident particularly enjoyed experimenting with different colour combinations and using the activity as a way to reflect on their experiences.

Supporting wellbeing through meaningful activity

Creative sessions can provide much more than an enjoyable way to spend time. Meaningful activity can support emotional wellbeing, self-expression and social connection. It can also help residents build confidence and develop positive relationships with the people supporting them.

Millcroft provides residential mental health rehabilitation in Leeds for adults with complex mental health needs. Our team works with each resident to develop personalised support around their needs, interests and individual goals.
