Supporting independence with meaningful activities at Heathy House in Halifax

At Heathy House, our residential service in Halifax for men with complex mental health needs, we work with each person to build skills and confidence through activities they enjoy.

Two residents recently asked to go to their local cafe for a coffee and a catch-up, supported by Occupational Therapy. Both said that going out for coffee was something they valued and wanted to do during their leisure time.

The outing provided structure to their morning and supported them to make decisions about how they spent their time. It also gave them a chance to enjoy each other’s company and build confidence in a social setting within their local community.

Occupational Therapy is an important part of the support we provide at Heathy House. We work alongside residents to understand their interests and goals, supporting them to build and maintain positive routines and become more independent in their daily lives.

Activities like this also give residents and colleagues time to talk, helping us understand what matters to each person and how they would like to be supported.
